Moving from fear to a place of confidence and positive change
Yahoska shares her journey of growing up in a violent community that has since been transformed
Every child and adult deserves the right to feel safe at home, but that wasn’t always the case for Yahoska, who lives in a Christian Children’s Fund of Canada-supported community in Nicaragua.
“I was born in one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods of Managua,” she explains. “There were two rival gangs disputing territory in the community…. [It] was not a safe place to live, for anyone. A lot of youth were murdered.”
Watch the video below to find out how Yahoska and her community found peace with the help of a CCFC-supported youth program

What We Do
We work to protect and improve the lives of children by helping them realize their basic human rights – nutritious food, clean water, health care and education. We empower children to grow up confident, know their rights, be active in the community, and take the lead in their own change. Read our blog below.
